Date Night

You already know how much we love Fridays. When you only get one full day off a week, it becomes very important! Our other two half-weekend days last week were spent on day trips, and when you've been traveling for the past two weeks and then have two more trips coming up you want to just be able to chill one day! I feel like Whit and I do a pretty good job of hanging out with each other and making time for dates, but we both felt like we hadn't really gotten out for a "real" date in awhile. So last Friday we went downtown to tour the art museum (free!) and get dinner (pizza!).

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has a ton of free exhibits. We walked around maybe half of one floor but were too hungry to continue on. That's fine with us because we can go back later - there are 1 1/2 floors left to see!

This mummy was 4000 years old!!!! Crazy!

If you live in Richmond or are going to be in town and are looking for a good place to eat, Blow Toad is a new restaurant across from the Byrd. It has a bar to sit at while you're waiting for a table, and one pizza is only $12. You can split one, which is just enough for 2 people, or each get your own and have some for lunch the next day. It's kind of small and very loud, but a fun atmosphere because it's very trendy. The waitresses use iPads (waste of money, but kind of cool), and they give your table a huge wine bottle type of jar filled with water, which you use to fill up your miniature glasses. Weird. The food was really good, and when our waitress messed up our order, we got the new pizza in about 3 minutes. I don't know how she did that.

We topped off the evening by watching Madagascar 2 back at the house. We have watched the King Julian montage on youtube many times, so we already knew a lot of the jokes, but it was still hilarious. It might be my new favorite kids' movie. I like it because, since it's the sequel, there isn't as much initial character and development so it moves faster and there's more jokes. It will be great to re-watch.

Hope you have a fun weekend! If you're looking for something fun to do in Richmond, try the VMFA!

  1. In case you're interested, the iPad ordering systems (since we've been researching) are cheaper than a standard system with computers! Even with buying the iPads. Crazy!

  2. Having a jar of water on the table is European - they did that everywhere when I was in France. I kind of liked being able to fill my glass when I wanted to! Waiters in America always forget to fill up my water glass!

And Jessamyn that is so crazy about the iPad thing - do you think you guys will do that for the restaurant??

  4. same with Australia with the water things. We might use them. And yes, we're probably doing the ordering system, but I'm not sure that the waiters will all carry them around - we'll decide later - though jordan's probably already made up his mind!
